Business coach Tham Chee Wah shared about what it means to have freedom at work. Watch the video below:
To realize Freedom, let’s first break it down into three categories: Freedom at work, Freedom living, Freedom in relationships.
All throughout the years we have been taught to believe that we are in bondage. This means that we are stuck with this job, or that we are stuck with that person, or that we are stuck in this life. There is nothing else we can do. Therefore, we have forgotten how it feels to be free.
To realize freedom, it is time for us to really sit back and try out some workable tips that we can do in order to let us realize freedom again.First off, freedom is not a handout. You don’t have to ask for it, for asking for it will be seeking approval.
What is Freedom?
Freedom is not a yearning for something. You don’t have to want it. Freedom should be seeking acknowledgement. Freedom is not a trophy. You don’t have to fight for it, for fighting for it will be seeking righteousness.
Freedom has always been here. It’s like the air we breathe, the water we drink, the blood that flows in our body. It has never left us because freedom is our birthright. It is in all of us. We just have to sit down and realize that and apply it in our work, in our living, and in our relationships. That is how we create a flow.
Here is something that those who are working for corporations can practice in order to see and realize freedom: When I am a leader, I lead. When others are leaders, I will let them lead.
Many of us hold on to the belief that we are always right: “I’m a CEO,” or “I’m the MD,” or “I’m the father of this house,” or “I’m your mother.” We think that everything that we have is right or that everything that we think of is right.
We always have lots of ideas on how we think it is best to implement something for the benefit of the company and the staff. “We think that, well, if I step down, someone will take over. I should also let him know how we have performed for the past 30 years”.
Because I write for corporations, I have met many who say, I’ve been in the business for 50 years. Now, all that I have learned has to change because the system has changed, the technology has improved. We are moving in to a new age with new ideas, so let them lead.
We are not our titles
Many of us can’t let go of being the leader, the General Manager, the CEO. We hold on to these titles because we believe that these titles define us. That is where we suffer.
Many of us are not free because we cannot give up these titles thinking that we are still the General Manager or the MD even though we’re 60 years old. Note that I’m using “I” or “We” because we have to take responsibility for what we think.
Because of these things, people are not free. We are always very busy. When someone asks if we could go for a drink, we say, No, I’m very busy. Why? Because we are taking care of other people’s stuff.
