Smart work is good but will never be the substitute for hard work. “Work smart not hard” has been over-used as an excuse for our laziness. Plain and simple.
The right motto should be “Work hard and work smart“.
I guess the main assumption for people who advocate the “work smart not hard” motto is for work we hate.
But why should we continue working on jobs we hate in the first place???
Is it that hard to work hard on things you love??? And if you want, besides working hard, you can easily work smart on whatever you love working hard on, right?
So, the key is not whether we should work hard or work smart.
Rather the key is to decide what is it that we should work on!
