Today, another reader has kindly shared his story with us, a true story that can be a lesson for everyone, not to take for granted of their own lives. Let’s read on and try to understand the message that the writer tries to convey.

His Story

In the year 2013, My dad, who is the third among the five brothers, died. Sometimes life have its funny twists and turn.

His first brother, has high blood pressure from his loved of a daily soft boiled eggs.

His second brother, is overweight from the lacked of proper exercise.

My father, the third brother, does Taichi daily in the morning when he lead a small class of 15 plus people and one more round at night to perfect his skills. He still had jet black hair and looked pretty young for his age.

His fourth brother, has stroke from excessive drinking, that left his right hand handicap and unable to walk normal without a cane and impaired him from driving, making him helpless, relying entirely on his wife.

His fifth brother, which is the youngest, suffers from diabetes and has to rely on pricy daily injections of insulin, just to maintain the pancreas in order to control the blood sugar level.

All of the brothers are above 60 years of age. Statistics by Centre for Disease Control and Prevention found that most adults suffer from heart disease, cancer and chronic respiratory disease in their sixties to be the leading cause of death.

Guess who is the first to knock on heaven’s door? It’s my father.

Eventhough he was the healthiest, on Chinese New Year on March 10, 2013 my father took his last morning stroll and was knocked down by a motorcyclist.

Is life unfair that my dad was the first to go?

Maybe it is. But I came to a realisation that no one can avoid death and we all have to face death one day. Whether we like it or not.

What was supposed to be a day of reunion and jubilation became a day of devastation and carnation.

In this dark time, there is light at the end of this tunnel. My dad had life insurance.

The sum is given to our mom and thank God my mom does not need to return back to work or rely on me as her only son and only source of income.

I’ve discovered insurance is there to plan for the unplan. Just like an umbrella is there for the family on a rainy day.

I’m a firm believer insurance saves people life from financial ruin. No doubt that the life of my father can’t never be replaced. But his love goes on.

But the life policy he bought accidentally years ago as young adult “just to support his friend” and it was also during that time he almost had the decision to cancel that life insurance policy. Who knew it would sprang alive when his family needs it the most?

I hope this story can be inspire you on the importance of getting yourself and your loved ones insured.

As if you ever need a reason to insure, remember the story of the five brothers.
