Books on how to amass great wealth abound. But not many talk about what keep us poor. Here, we shall examine some of the most common myths that explains why we are poor. Upon examining, we find most of them are nothing more than excuses.

Myth Number One: I don’t dream big enough, I am not a risk-taker

The truth of the matter is…
Contrary to popular belief, most of us have big dreams. In fact, we dream too big. We focus on achieving big successes so much that we forget about setting and striving to achieve smaller but more important goals. In other words, we want big success without paying the big price.

Myth Number Two: I do not work hard enough

The truth of the matter is…
Most of us work very hard just to get by. But if we think as hard as we work, our situations will be much improved. But thinking hard seems to be more difficult to most people than working hard. Because when we work hard we do not rock the coat, shatter the status quo and upset the many people around us which will happen when we think hard and make drastic changes to our lives.

Myth Number Three: I do not have enough formal education

The truth of the matter is…
Street wise and common sense education is more important than formal education when it
comes to building your financial freedom.

Myth Number Four: I live in a lousy country

The truth of the matter is…
We tend to over-ameliorate the countries we believe to be good and be over-critical about our home country. Unless you live in a war-torn country with ongoing civil unrest and dysfunctional government, you should grab whatever opportunity you have to work towards financial freedom.

Myth Number Five: I don’t have a supportive spouse

The truth of the matter is…
Your spouse might not be the best wife or husband BUT most of the time they are good enough for you to start building your half million dollar empire. They might not seem to be ‘supportive’ enough, but they won’t stop you either if you go ahead and do it.

Myth Number Six: I don’t make enough money from my current

The truth of the matter is…
We might not make enough money to support our current living BUT believe it or not, we are
actually making enough to save a portion of it every week no matter how small. If we lower our current costs of living, we can even double our income the following month. If you earn $2000 per month and have $200 left over at the end of every month, then you will double your income (ie. the money left over every month) by spending $200 less.

Myth Number Seven: I don’t have the right connection

The truth of the matter is…
We already have the right connection BUT we just take it for granted. The right connections are our loved ones and people who believed in us but we may have taken them for granted. Spend more time with them, give them the attention they deserve and you will realize they can help you in ways you never thought of before. Of course, you must do your part as well. God help those who help themselves.
