Let’s assume you are keen to invest in a stock – A Inc.
You studied its fundamentals and calculated its valuation ratios.
You planned to invest in it at around $100 a share.
But now, it is trading at $120 a share. So, what can you do?
For most investors, they sit at the sidelines, waiting for A Inc to fall to $100 a share. Meanwhile, I discovered that there are savvy investors who earn “side income” while waiting for it to happen.
These investors sell options, enabling them to buy A Inc at $100 a share.
In return, they earn a premium from selling these options.
So, if A Inc continues to trade above $100, they keep their premiums. But, if A Inc falls below $100, they would buy it at $100 a share.
But hey, that’s part of the original plan (to invest in A Inc at $100 a share) in the first place.
So, these investors can set their intended buying and selling prices, managing risk and receiving premiums in the stock market.
All of these can happen because they are masters in utilising options.
