Once, there are 2 investors: Alex and Ken.
Alex is a value seeker. He finds companies that have solid business models that generated solid financial results for years or even decades. He only invests in them if their valuation ratios which include PE Ratio, PB Ratio and Dividend Yields are attractively low.
On the other hand, Ken seeks growth. He is excited about the “big ideas” and “future potentials”. Thus, Ken focuses on stocks with innovative products and solutions, high sales growth and total addressable market. As long as he sees a huge runway, he would invest despite the stocks now having yet to deliver profits and cash flows and seemingly high valuations.
One day, both investors met and decided to compare their portfolios.
For Alex, his stocks did well by and large, offering regular dividends and had appreciated in their value over time.
For Ken, it is a mixed bag. He owns stocks that had risen by 10X-30X over time like NVIDIA and Tesla. Also, he owns stocks that had “flopped” and dropped by more than 50% of their value like Zoom, Roku and Snap. But nevertheless, Ken’s 10X-30X gains had outweighed the huge losses from his stocks that flopped.
