RM90 billion.
That’s the latest reported value of frozen assets in Malaysia today.
The main reason?
A lack of proper estate planning. In fact, 85% of Malaysians still have no estate plan at all. If you already have a written Will, that puts you in the top 15%.
That’s a good start — but here’s the uncomfortable truth: A Will alone is often not enough. To make Will writing more accessible and affordable, digitally-assisted Wills have emerged. This is a positive step forward and has encouraged more Malaysians to finally start their estate planning journey.
However, when a Will is activated, assets do not turn into cash immediately. Properties take time to transfer. Investments may be frozen. Bank accounts can be inaccessible. Yet expenses don’t wait.
Families still need immediate cash for:
• Funeral and medical expenses
• Outstanding loans and bills
• Legal and administrative fees
• Daily living costs This cash-flow gap is one of the most overlooked risks in estate planning — and a major reason families experience financial stress despite having a valid Will.
Here, KC Chong, Managing Director & Founder of SAC Wealth Management Sdn Bhd, shares:
