How many of us are born money-wise? Those who manage their money better than others are not necessarily smarter or more talented. They are simply more informed.

Read The Money Book and I would say that you will be definitely more informed than 80% of the population in Malaysia. Published by Consumers Association of Penang (CAP), it is a guide to managing your money and more.

What is in the book?

  • Smart budgeting, saving, and spending
  • hire purchase and easy-payment schemes
  • credit cards
  • the debt trap and bankruptcy
  • the real cost of buying a house or car
  • medical & legal fees
  • the truth about insurance
  • the problem with banks
  • EPF & SOCSO
  • income tax
  • money in marriage – and divorce

Price?

It costs less than a plate of meat at TGI’s Friday. Selling for only RM20.00, packed with 280 pages of money tips, it is the most affordable and inexpensive book you should get.

My view

Basically the book covers a lot of details of the topics listed above. It explains how hire purchase works, how credit card works, how banks make their profit, and a lot of other stuff.

For example, you might have seen many pawn shop beside most main roads. But do you know how pawn shop make profit. What is the term and condition to get money from pawn shop? It is all explained in this book.

A lot of things happen in our daily life are discussed in this book. You will be a smarter consumer by following its guide.

Although some discussion are dull, but it is packed with information and details. It serves better as a reference rather than a fun read. I will keep it at a prime spot on my bookshelf for convenient reference in the future.

Please bear in mind that this is a book that teaches you how to be a smart consumer. It is not going to teach you how to be rich.

Buy or not?

Definitely a great buy. I bought it at Popular bookstore. I believe you can get it at MPH too.

The book is one of the best informational book out there, relevant to Malaysia.

However, I have to say, how the book was written, was a bit of a disappointment.

      Hi Fathersez,
Actually it is a dull read. I doubt that you will finish reading it. However, I kept it as a reference whenever I need information before making any financial decision.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look out for this book for my elder girls. (I'll read it first, of course)
