Most parents when trying to give advice to their kids would say “I wish someone had told me this or that…” How true is it really? Could it be someone had already told them, not once, not twice, but repeatedly ad nauseam?
So, do not pretend we are any different from our young ones.
Life has to be lived and mistakes have to be made before our lessons are to be effectively learnt.
Instead, we can share with them how ignorant we were brushing aside those words of wisdom others had given us. Tell them honestly what we were thinking, why were we not listening and how we have learnt our lesson the hard way. Maybe that way, we would come across as being more authentic and sincere to our kids and they might just listen more receptively.
