I know most of us use Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet to record and track our expenses. Did you ever come to a moment that you think your money is lost somewhere? Your accounts are just not balance. Your money seems evaporated? Sometimes this happens when you seem to records all your expenses of the month. But when you compare your actual saving by deducting expenses from your income, the actual surplus left is less than the number shown in your excel spreadsheet. It is almost impossible to balance it anymore because you just can’t remember what else happen to your money.
That’s why I prefer Quicken and Microsoft Money to keep track of my accounts. I try to use credit card whenever possible to make payment because it is recorded in the statement. Without spending money to buy those softwares, you can try another free service: Electric CheckBook.

Electric CheckBook (ECB) is an online application created by New Leaders in 48 hours during the Rails Rumble 2007. YES! You heard me right that the application is coded and all completed in 48 hours only, by a team of programmers. What you can do with ECB is pretty amazing though, which includes:
1. Put your accounts together – You can access your account ledgers from any web browser
2. Record Payments, Deposits and Transfer – Using their simple transaction form you can enter all the details about a transaction. How much was spent on what and when. Auto-fill payees and categories make it even faster to enter a new transaction.
3. Take Control of Your Credit – Keeping track of credit cards can be a hassle. With Electric CheckBook
you can set-up a ledger for every credit card, loan payment or line of
credit you have.
4. Track Cash Account - You can track cash accounts without the need of a bank account.
5. Share CheckBooks with Family and Friends – You can share any CheckBook with a Group by simply inviting members.
Set the accounts they have access to. Your private accounts are never
shared with anyone to keep your sensitive information secure. This is a great feature for married couples to share accounts.
Here is an example of the accounts I created:

Try it out yourself. It will be a great application if reports can be generated at ease. That’s the most important feature lacked if compared with other comprehensive software like Quicken.
