I prefer Ben Graham's definition on Investing, and my mother's definition of Gambling (or Speculating). Ben says, "“An investment operation is one which, upon thorough analysis promises safety of principal and an adequate return. Operations not meeting these requirements are speculative.” My mother told me, "Anything that involves Winning or Losing is Gambling (or Speculating)". To me, that 2 definitions is very clear. When i invest, i only ask myself 1 question, "Can i lose money?". If the answer is Maybe, Not Sure, i'll skip. When i read the above definition, i can’t see much difference, especially between Speculating and Investing.
