My friends, YowChuan from Meshio.com had published a brand new ebook about insurance planning, specially written to guide Malaysians on their next insurance purchase. I’ve got the ebook in my computer for several weeks. After reading it word by word from the start till the end, I finally made up my mind to review this ebook here.

First of all, let’s take a look at the table of contents.

YowChuan did a great job in writing the supposed-to-be-dull contents in an entertaining form. There are stories and case studies in most of the chapters. In terms of language proficiency, he really masters the art of writing, definitely better than mine.

YowChuan is a cartoonist who graduated from MMU with a degree in graphic design, before he became a full time financial practitioner. You will definitely find some great art work within the text.

The ebook is short, only 50 pages. I think that is the appropriate length because as a consumer, you are only interested to know the most essential information to guide you on insurance planning. 50 pages of text and illustration are sufficient to give you a good picture of the insurance products out there in the market.

The content starts from product explaination. The main products discusssed are:

  • Personal accident coverage
  • Medical & Hospitalization insurance
  • Critical Illnesses Policy
  • Endowment policy
  • Whole life policy
  • Investment-linked policy

Towards the end of the ebook, YowChuan tell us the truth about the critical years tragedy. Critical years is used to be highly marketted as the main feature of a life insurance plan. The only reason people hesitate to get insured is thinking about the premium that they need to pay regularly. If insurance agents can take away the worry about premium payment, or make it as short as possible, life insurance policy will be a very attractive product. But nowadays, critical years are no longer preached because it was banned by the authorities.

More gems are revealed at the last chapter: 10 general insurance tips and advice. If you are not clear about the products available on the market today, this ebook serves as a good guide.

Buying insurance plans is a long term commitment. You might as well get it right on the first time and be informed as much as possible. You can get this ebook for US$4.95.
