Can I claim Insurance for Influenza AH1N1 virus?
The death rate as a result of AH1N1 in our country is especially high compared to other regions. As stated by Rojak and Cocktail:
The Health Ministry’s estimation that the current mortality rate of those infected is below 0.4% may be flawed as the total number of confirmed cases reported on Aug 17 was 4,225 and the total death then was 64. Based on that, the mortality rate has reached 1.5%.
The only good news is that insurance companies have decided to allow payouts on claims for treatment, hospitalisation and death as a result of Influenza A(H1N1).
The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) president, Md Adnan Md Zain said,
“Even though a majority of medical policies carry exclusions on communicable diseases requiring quarantine by law, life insurers are responding to an immediate need of the nation in light of the increasing number of people who have been infected,â€
.
This is a good move to assure policyholders. But please be aware of the deadliness of the AH1N1 virus. It doesn’t mean you can afford to be careless as long as you are insured.

I think the basic principal is that this outbreak didn’t cross the trigger line and for good marketing sakes, its payable …. for now.
